Sealing a stand

I have heard of people sealing the bottom of their stand with "resin" to prevent any small leaks from leaking through. What does everyone recommend for sealing the bottom of a stand?

I am very new and do not have my own tank or even my own stand, but I read quite a bit about building your own stand in the DIY forum. I think people seal the wood with exterior grade KILZ primer/sealant. For the joints, etc, I would imagine any type of exterior grade silicon caulk would work. Never really heard anything about resin.

Resins are used to make like a plywood tank.. not really used to seal a stand..

I always give the wood a couple coats of polyurethane to protect it, and seal around the sides with 3M sealant - so if there's a small spill, it will be contained within the stand instead of in the carpet under it.

Silicone should do it, with a little kilz or latex paint. Something to catch some un-avoidable spills.
