need help choosing a protein skimmer

I am looking for input on a cheaper skimmer that will work for a little while until i get up the money for a better one. I have someone checking into prices to build me a refugium, but it may be a while yet on that so I want to at least try to find a skimmer that will get me buy until that is priced to build.

Why not wait until you have the money to buy a good skimmer? It will cost less in the long run to do this.

i would rather spend the money that i will have on the refugium while he is willing to build it for the price of parts, then buy a better skimmer with taxes and sell mine to someone who doesn't have alot to spend on one

I have a good working Red Sea Berlin Turbo Skimmer that I've been using on my 90gal for 10+ years that would work just fine on your 55. They have a bad rep but mine has served me well for a long time and I just ordered another skimmer today. Has suction venturi mod with Rio 1700 pump. I'll sell/ship it cheap. PM if interested.

find a used (or new) ASM. Many say the technology is old but mine has served me well for 3yrs.

Not enough post and not 90 days. So (desgerhat)he can not buy from the used forum. Suggestion start posting more question get involved with some threads and build up your post. Just do water changes until that time. Buy used in the forum, the price of skimmers has gone way down, easy to get a used skimmer for 120 bucks(Euro Reef RS 80 or ASM G series) or sub 200 for a new one, (Bubble Magnus NA6A, but needs a deep sump)
