ETSS Skimmer

hi guys,

i just received an ETSS SKIMMER from a friend. when i have it running-it overflows, i figured i need to open the valve a little more.
i have two issues, hopefully you guys can shine some light!

should i fill the skimmer with bioballs? as there were only a few left in the skimmer.

the skimmer piece that is attached to the hose for the pump isn't fixed on the skimmer. should i use a sealant to permenantly keep it in place to the skimmer?

thanks in advance!!
