In the market for a new skimmer
Im pretty new to salt water keeping and I dont like my current skimmer (Turboflotor 1000) so Im looking for a new one...
Ive got a 60 gallon with a 20 gallon long sump. Right now Ive only got 1 black and white clown but plan on having a medium to high bio load when I get a new skimmer. I want something that is big enough to handle a possible future upgrade (100gal or so). My budget is around $200-250. Im looking for an in sump model, footprint really isnt that big of an issue. Any suggestions? thanks |

Stretch the budget a little or keep an eye out for a used SWC 160 ($269 new). You won't regret it.

My tank is almost the same size and after a lot of research, I went with the Reef Octopus Extreme XS 160 with new PSK-600 pump. It is really a nice skimmer and I'm very pleased so far. You can get it at Premium Aquatics. They had a 10% off sale for thanks giving so they might have one at Xmas too. That takes the skimmer to close to $250. You will not be disappointed.

I'm really pleased with my Bubble Magus NAC-7 ultra quiet does a hell of a job. I would defiantly but them on the short list.
