Mp40es, and mp10es together?
Can a mp40es and an mp10es be used together? I have one mp40 and need another pump, but i would like a smaller foot print on the opposite side of the tank. So can one drive the other? Has anyone done this? And where do you position your pumps. Im constantly moving mine around. Because of the length of my tank i have to crank the mp40 to 100% to get flow to the other side of the tank. But it blows my corals around near the pump, i want the water movement with a gentle flow. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

As long as all your VorTechs are wireless ES models, any size is able to communicate with another, that's one of the great things about them, you can mix and match to your heart's content. In fact a W ES driver can even communicate with an older MP40W driver, it's just that you will be limited by the MP40W driver's modes and this in turn will depend on the firmware version. You can probably get confirmation on this on the EcoTech forum here, but I know another local reef enthusiast who is running one MP40W ES and is using it to control an MP40W.
As far as where to locate your pumps, in the end you're really the one to best decide this since we can't see how your tank is set up. I have two MP40W ES on my 77 gal 4 foot tank and they are in the standard location, one at each end, more or less centered front to back. I have them about 3 to 4 inches below the water surface and run them in the ES Tidal Swell Mode at about 85%.

Meh, i have 2 mp10s and 1 mp40 and although they do the job, i feel i would benefit more if i had 2 MP40s. I almost feel that the mp40 is too much for the 10 to compete where they sit. I ended up moving 1 of them to the frag tank since it was not doing much. I put one opposite side so that it just creates a gyre, but im just going to get rid of both of them and get another mp40 or mp20. I guess its more matter of opinion and size(dims) of tank, in my case i have 36X30X18 so its a bit harder for me to find a good spot. Possible in your tank it will be a completely diff story
take it only with a grain of salt though, like I said it all depends on the tank side. To be honest pumps on the side that i look into the tank is an eye sore to me so i dont have them there for that reason too. GL |
