I have a bar goby. At first they are very reclusive fish. I have had mine for about 4 months now and he comes out even when my hand is in the tank. These fish make burrows so I would look around. Don't be alarmed until you haven't seen him for a week.

Don't worry. If he didn't jump---and a jump screen is a very good idea!!!---he's hiding. The smallest fish in the ocean are timid in the presence of large shadows (yours and fish) and will hide. He's likely watching you. Don't move rocks---you could trap him.
