Can maroon clowns ever host a maxi mini carpet?

Everyone says clowns never host maxi mini carpets, but they all get the information from the same person.

Has anyone had their clownfish pair host one of these?

They host other corals, so I figure they might host this. Or is it really impossible?

I have about 10 maxi-minis, in 4 different tanks. All tanks have a pair of clowns, and none have even looked twice at the maxi-minis.

However, the sexy shrimp love them, and each have their favorite to hang with.

It is true, a clown will never host a maxi-mini or any anemone for that matter.

The anemone does the hosting. Now it may seem that I am nip-picking, but if you had heard someone state this correctly it could lead to some confusion.

I've read a lot of threads by people who keep maxi-mini carpets (Stichodactyla tapetum), as well as some articles about these anemones, and they all say the same thing: they do not host clownfishes.

I don't think you would want a maroon using a tapetum as a host anyway. Maroons get large and can be very rough of their host. Especially if it's small. It is not unusual for maroons to kill their host in captivity if it is small.

In your situation, I would try a colony of hairy shrooms. They don't move, the colonies get large, and they're tough as nails.

I know- right? ( a Wisconsinish saying). I'm constantly hearing/reading about the clown hosting heater, or an anem., etc. I even asked who hosted who? Thanks for clearing that up.

I just bought a maxi-mini carpet An., hoping it would host my clown :-(,
lfs guy, not the owner, the employee said it might. I didn't research these first. I might take it back. It looks cool though.

I got a small peppermint shrimp also, but haven't read where they will work or not, like a sexy shrimp.

Search this forum, there ARE a handful of photos of a few different types of clowns hosting in maxi-minis. It seems rare, but possible.

I agree with what everyone says here, that the answer is normally no, clown and maxi-mini's don't mix. However a local reefer does have this. I took the picture when I was checking out one of his other tanks. This clown regularly swing in the nem. So it does happen, rarely.

I think my O. Clown is a tank bred, low IQ one.

All he does is swim by the front glass of my 125. No one really bothers him, he's not being pushed there, just that where he stays almost all of the time.

I've heard M-M carpets host Sexy shrimp? I think the Petco near my house has some sexy,s, and they have shrimp also ;-). I think I'll try that for the MM carpet and try a RBTA for the clown.

I have a clown and a maxi-mini. He's shown no interest. However, my anemone crab has decided he loves it.

i bought the Maxi Mini carpet on Friday and my maroon that i have had for 8 months is hosting it right now... I am thinking of buying another so the clown does not beat it up to bad.

My lfs guy told me it would EAT my clown so I opted out. Instead, I decided to set up a 20 gallon, just for mini maxis because I love them so much.

Old thread. Yes they can eat your fish, but are generally reef safe. That being said there's nothing wrong with a dedicated nano for them, it should be a great little tank.

"Can maroon clowns ever host a maxi mini carpet?"

I'm just trying to visualize this... a mini carpet attached to a maroon

Only thing a clownfish can "host" are parasites

That's actually not correct. Mini Maxis have only been big in the states since 2010. You want information, ask outside of the country. I have friends in Vietnam who know quite a lot about them. They eat fish. Which fish they will eat is debatable. Some claim they have eaten their fish and swear to it. Others seem to have no issue with it. I just wrote about a friend's bad experience in another post, but even that situation seemed odd. In the end I think I decided there may have been a health issue with the fish. They are anemones that don't host clowns. Another friend of mine who has lots of mini maxis will swear to it that they eat clowns and other fish. He has a smaller tank with a large mini maxi garden. He's kept them for a long time. His advice against it mixed with my bad first hand experience has me decided against it.
