Pouring top off water into overflow
My overflow leads to a drip tray which then drains into my fuge. I'm beginning to suspect that I may be killing off my pods in the fuge with the daily influx of fresh water. Is this a possibility, or am I being paranoid? How might I add top off water instead in such a way that I don't disturb the sandbed and it doesn't take 30 minutes to pour a gallon of RO/DI into my tank...? :-)
I tried pouring directly into the return section of my sump but that kicks up too much detritus from the sump floor.

I thought that pods were fairly tough to wipe out with fresh water. My top-off water goes directly into my overflow, but it goes in from my ato not as a large influx of water.

At the risk of self promotion, make a 1 gallon kalk dripper and add kalk while topping off. No osmotic shock and you're maintaining Ca and Alk at the same time.

How long has the fuge been set up? What's in it? Do you have some chaeto for them to live in? What's the flow rate through the sump? |

OK forgive the n00b question but if I just drip kalk constantly, what's to keep the calcium /alk from just rising all the time? Is the calcium consumed somehow? Is it skimmed out? Won't it eventually start a snowstorm of precipitation in my tank?
What about Mag?
