RO/DI - recommended units?
Setting up a new tank - need to purchase an RO/DI.
Don't need a lot of daily output - probably no more than 50 gallons as my tank is only 150. Want one that is capable of removing chloriamines, etc AND is not wasting 7 gallons of water for each gallon of RO delivered water. Recommendations? Sources for same? Key features to look for when purchasing? Jack |

I love my Spectrapure unit, never had any issues with it. I would highly recommend them. I purchased one for my mom to run a drinking water system as well (just RO, no DI). Good luck.

The Spectrapure unit that addresses the chloramine issue is really expensive!
A unit that looks attractive to me: Optima CA at PurelyH2O.com for $259 as it specifically addresses chloramines. They also advertise that they are RC supporters. Has anyone tried this or found better? |

Our public water supply does contain chloramines, thus I want to be sure to get a unit that removes that element. |

a four stage ro/di should be sufficient, there are many reefers that use tap water(I'm not advocating, I'm just saying)...and from what I can tell most units are same design, so I'd go with a cheaper unit like aqua fx or Bulk Reef Supply...from what I can tell most all units use the dow filmtech membrane and the same filters, so how much difference is there?

I use the bulk reef supply unit. After tinkering with mine and changing filter cartridges, my TDS out BEFORE the di is 1--which makes my di resin last a really long time. They have good customer service and lots of helpful how to videos. Another one I'd consider is from melev's reef.

I bought the 6 stage deluxe system from BRS off ebay, http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/...xe-system.html . I paid $199.00. It was very easy to set up from box to making water in 20 min. They use top of the line fittings and filters. I've got a 180 gallon tank. I think BRS quit listing on ebay but I'm not sure.... Even if you bought it off there web site I think it would be worth the money. Also there customer service is very helpful. I had to call them to tell me about the gages. I thought all the meters were nonsense when I was looking at buying my unit but after having them I would not own a system without them. It helps you to keep everything running at optimal levels..Good Luck

I'll go along with recomending the BRS RO/DI units. I have one and couldn't be happier. Ease of set-up was as easy as you could ask for and the included dual in-line TDS meter, flush valves, pressure guages, etc. were worth paying for the more advanced units. I can say it was well worth the expense.

Remember most all your RODI systems are close to the same. The differences are filters and fittings warranty. Watch this video and it will give you an idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W60LBHAT_iM
My BRS RODI system is a 75 gallon per day unit. It makes about 45 gallons of 0 TDS water in about 15/20 hrs at an incoming pressure of 60psi. |

Thats great my system is rated at a little more than 3 gallons an hour of 0 TDS water. Try to Look at the rejection rate. Also BRS has a lifetime warranty vs a 3 yr warranty. Also look at the differences in the filters and fittings. I know the BRS unit comes with auto shut off valves and a back flush system. Just make sure you look at the whole system. My system is more than enough for a 180 gallon tank.

I too was concerned about the water i was wasting. Bought a unit from the filter guys www.thefilterguys called a water saver and was amazed! Sold my old water hog and couldn't be happier! Those guys know there units and are great to work with. Give em a look, you'll be happy you did! P.S. My waste water line empties into the washing machine, so I waste nothing!

I've been pretty happy with my 5 stage 75 gpd ro/di unit from thefilterguys (http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm). I upgraded to the chloramine filters since the city in which I live uses chloramine in its water supply.

One of the reasons I'm running an Air Water Ice Typhoon III with a chloramine carbon block. I run lower micron filters than standard on it because I'm on Naples city water and have virtually no particulates to speak of.
Basically, all RO/DI units are the same. You need to choose the filters, membrane and accessories appropriate for your needs. Any of the sponsors here will deliver a quality unit. Jeff |
