aqua c ev 180 help, not making bubbles??

i set up my ev 180 a little over a week ago, and tried to set it the way the manual said to let it break in, i had the water level right where the neck starts, and the injector is all the way open.

i tried raising the water level, so it can start skimming, but when i do it stops making bubbles.

i'm using a mag 7 as the pump.

here's a bad pic:

any suggestions?? i know once these skimmers get working they're supposed to be pretty good, although i know they're a little outdated.

thanks

Does this skimmer use a spray injector or a venturi to create bubbles?

Bigger pump! I have an EV240 and was using a Mag 12 and it did not do a very good job. I put a Mag 18 on it with a 1" dia feed hose and now the thing kicks butt. You also need to keep the injector clean. Even a little piece of macro algae can mess up the bubbles. If you put a Mag 12 on that skimmer you will see a HUGE difference int the amount of skimmate produced.

Aqua-C uses spray injectors (correct me if I'm wrong), I have one but it's a Remora Pro. I checked out their entire line on their website.

If you go to this skimmers thread in filtration you will see most people run the 180's with the mag 9.5. Seems like it works the best. They are kinda tuff to dial in but once you do it is set and forget. Good luck

Make sure the top vents/connectors are screwed down airtight. Use a strong light to look through the base (if it's like my 120) and verify that you are getting bubble action inside the chamber. I run my 120 off a mag 5 pump. Dunno what a 180 may take.

Also---a skimmer will not skim for a while if you've had ungloved hands in the tank: it's the oil on our hands, I'm told.
