another ? from a total newb.
Hey guys
I just got a 100g 48x24x20 rimless tank.My question this time is.What size sump should i be looking for?My cabinet is 50x25x36 and my return line is about 7" from the top down.so from what I've been learning is that if the power goes out my tank will drain down to the re turn line.Does this sound right? If so I would think the sump would have to be pretty big. P.S.I really appreciate all the help and I hope I'm not being a Pain in the a** |

55 gal is 48 inches long, If you can fit that it would be great, gives you more room for a fuge and skimmer. As far as a power outage, yes the water will flow back into the sump. You can install a check valve that will stop it from coming back down but if it fails a 55 gal or a 40 gal should be enough to get you covered depending where the return line(s) are located in the display tank. Shoot to have the water level to be around 8-10 inches for the sump.

if your tank is 48" long by 24" front to back you'll need 35 gallons of headroom in your sump if it's a bulkhead input. If it's an over the top input you can add a siphon break by drilling a small hole in the pipe just below the waterline.
So a 55 gal sump with 8" in it is going to have 20 gallons in it.. a 55 without a siphon break is the minimum you can have |
