Dry rock and Live rock for reef system

I am looking to possibly get some dry rock from Bulk Reef Supply and i was wondering can you mix it with live rock and would it be safe for corals later on if i wanted to add some?

putting it with liverock will seed the dry rock into becoming live. Make sure you cure the rock first if you're adding to an existing tank. after that, your fish and corals will love it!

I don't think it would since it was never live rock. You may want to rinse it well with RO/DI water before adding it and check with BRS to be sure. It should eventually become live rock once it is in your tank with the other live rock.

I used this rock when I did a tank upgrade, but I cycled the new tank before adding everything over with the BRS dry rock and new sand seeded with a cup of sand from my established tank, some water from my established tank and some raw shrimp. After the cycle, I did a 50% water change and then slowly started to transfer everything over within a day.

On the subject of dry vs live. When starting a new tank, I know most people recommend 1 to 2 pounds live rock per gallon. If you are mixing this with dry rock does the ration change?

wether you start with all live, partial live or mostly dry, the number in pounds is for total rock.

How long does it tank for dry rock to seed and become live? My plan is to buy dry rock online for 50 to 75% of it, then get live rock locally.

Depends on what your bio-load is.......how many damsels, inverts (crabs, snails) do u have in your system ? The bacteria that breaks down nutrients will need a source for said nutrients. Shouldnt take too long, but just be aware that u dont want to add too much livestock too soon to overload. The bacteria ramps up gradually so one should add livestock gradually
