Closed Loop & drilling holes
I have a oceanic 72g bowfront aquarium. I believe the overflow holes are 3/4" and 1".
I am planning to keep SPS, so I want lots of flow for this system, so I figure I should drill 3 holes in the bottom of the tank and install a closed loop for flow. What do you recommend the size of the holes should be? Is 3 holes good enough? Should the holes be placed in a specific spot? What pump would you recommend for flow? Thanks for your time ![]() |

TBH, you're better off buying a couple powerheads. They'll use less power and allow more variable flow, plus you won't have to drill any holes.

IMO for a closed loop you should drill the back pane of glass.. for my closed loop setup I have the intake for the closed loop maybe 6- 8" from the top.. the two exhaust ports are further down maybe 5-6" above the sand and I have these setup as a 1" return.. for my tank I'm using a ampmaster 3000 for closed loop and a mag 12 to run the sump, and all other accessories.
