Salifert Nitrate Test help

When comparing the sample to the color strip am I supposed to actually place it on the color card (touching it) or hold it away a bit and compare?

Thanks...

I hold the card in my left hand out in front of me and hold the vial a few inches in front of the card and try to match the colors that way. Its easier for me to hold it out in front of me....

I hold it up against the card in good light (i.e. daylight or overhead flo's) so the light is even/equal for the card and test water.

Directions state hold vial against the white. If your nitrate is low, you need to place the vial on top of chart, read value and divide by 10.

No, you get the "medium range" results by looking down the vial from the top, you get the "low range" results by looking through the vial from the side and dividing by 10.

In both cases, the white part of the card should be held against the vial behind the liquid.
