Dinoflagellate Or sum kind of Brown algae?

Ok so have this very fast growing brown algae in my aquarium. It is very easy to get off the rocks I can just blow it right off with a power head. But the next day its all right back. I have changed the light cycle from 10hrs on to 5 hrs. And I read that if it’s a dino prob. One way to deal with dino is to keep the ph over 8.4. So I have kept it over 8.4 for over a week now. 8.4 In the am and it’s around 8.7 win the lights shut down. Ok sum info on the tank it’s a 76 gal main tank with a 20 gal sump. 48” 8 bulb t5 set up with 2 10,000 k day bulbs 2 420nm and 4 460nm bulbs. In sump protean skimmer (reef octo 160 xs) I just up graded to this skimmer from a coral life 125. I upgraded trying to fix this brown algae problem. Nitrates at 0. Calcium was at around 450 tell I have been jacking up the ph. Mag at around 1300 ppm. Sg.1.025
If you guys could tell me what I need to test for I would be glad to test for it and re post.

Thx so much for your help!!!
Ps 80% of the rock in this tank was purple coraline alige tell this stuff took over

I know your pain very well! Prepare yourself for a long hard fight! To say what will work is a challenge in itself as many have tried different methods and have had different results. I have been fighting this crap for almost two months. Testing will be of no help. Agressive skimming, and GFO are a must. I tried lights out several times and then went with dosing peroxide. Using a filter sock on the overflow with also help with the removal but should be changed and cleaned daily. You need to try and manually remove as much as possible before going lights out. I cleaned off as much as I could and then went lights out. I dosed the peroxide in the mornings. I went 3 days of lights out and then only turned on the actinics. I had been dosing peroxide for about a week before going with the lights out. When i turned back on the actinics, they started to come back but at a much lesser amount. I then went another 3 days with no lights. I have only had the actinics back on for 2 days now and there is only a small amount showing itself in the overflow and on the tips of the return lines. There is also a small amount showing on the face plate of the Tunze units. I plan to cover the overflow box for about a week and simply clean the other surfaces. There are none showing anywhere else in the tank. After everything I have gone through and tried. this is the best I have seen so far. I hope I have kicked them but will have to wait and see. It definately seems like I'm on the right path. The peroxide has shown no problems with any of the livestock and I will continue dosing until I'm sure they are gone. Its been a real pain for sure. The worst thing I have ever dealt with in all my years!!

Hello, unfortunately those do appear to be dinos. Please see my thread here in which many folks from all over the globe have contributed. Be sure to go to page one and read forward. The RC servers are so flaky tonight all I was able to access was page nine for some reason. Feel free to PM me with specific questions. Happy to help in your fight and good luck!http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...1619925&page=9
