Current USA skimmer mods/club

anyone have a current usa fission skimmer? mine is a 8105. i have read nothing but horror stories of them overflowing and the recirculation pump being crap. i rigged up a rio 1100 needle wheel pump for the recirculation pump because the original recirc pump was noisy as hell fresh out of the box. i cut the threaded unions off the original pump and abs glued them to some fittings and attached it. it seems to pull quite a bit of fine air bubbles. the main feed pump is from a coralife 220. its also a needle wheel pump but i dont know the gph. although i imagine its a fair amount due to the skimmer it was intended for. my skimmer pulls about a cup a day of disgusting smelling dark skimmate.... i would like to know if anyone else has this skimmer or any experience with it. if you have; what is a mod that can help this skimmer function better? its a decent sized skimmer with alot of potential. thanks in advance for the input y'all.

I recently got the 8106 have yet to get my sump setup. I had planned on using a 10g but the skimmer won't even fit in either of my sections.
Can you put up a pic of the modded parts, i can't visualize how you attached unions.
My instructions state only 200-300 gph input, and reviews i read around the net say lower works better for my model. Would too much throughput = overflowing skimmer?

i have one runing in my tank my is the 8106 my pump burn out and i have to replace it but i replace it a a 450gal hour nidle pump and it works just fine not the best skimer but not bad!!!
