Phosban reactor

What media do you run in your phosban reactor and why?

I have two phosban reactors. One has gfo because I feed frozen foods and don't want the phosphate to accumulate. The other has carbon in it because I think my water looks more clear when I use carbon than when I don't.

Can you give me your opinion on carbon. I've been told that using carbon will put vital minerals from the water.

That is an urban legend. Carbon should be used on every tank 24/7.

I use bulkreefsupply.com for my medias.

I have two TLF reactors. One has GFO and one has Carbon.

I use three phosban reactors
1) n/p biopellets used to aid in removing nitrate and a small percentage of phosphates
2) GFO to keep phosphates in check
3) carbon to keep water crystal clear and odorless

I use granular but prefer pellets. I will be switching back to pellets on my next order.

I have used purigen and have it ready to go should the need arise. I have no reason to believe it does not work as advertised. Good stuff IME

I actually have been using Purigen for10years now with much success and you can regenerate it a few times before it's NG. As with some things I do I'm never sure which one is working so if my water is good I just do what I've always done. If things go down hill I eliminate things not add more and more stuff to try and correct. Like now I think m gonna get a gfo/ gac reactor from brs. I don't even know why it just seems more efficient.

For those who run the two reactors, do you run them in a series or do you run them separately with their own pumps? If in a series, which reactor is first (GFO or Carbon)?

each one of mine has its own pump. it is easyer to adjust each's flow and you dont have to touch any of the other reactors when you have to change the media in one reactor

I run 3 TLF Reactors 1 with GFO, 1 with NP Pellets and the other one with carbon. Each one has its own pump as well.

I run one off a mj 400 and it is dialed back with a valve. I bet you could run two with one pump. Thats a good idea.
