Keeping Ich out of the tank possible if you use NSW??

I planned on running the new tank fishless for 3 months with only LR, inverts, corals and an anemone to make sure I dont have ich in the tank (150g). I also run an AquaUV 57 watt 24/7 on the system.

Question is.... Is there any way i can use NSW for water changes without bringing ich back into my tank? I dont see how that would be possible since its straight from the ocean and contains all kinds of stuff....

NSW would be great since the tank is large and i can have it delivered. Its also cost effective and ive heard the corals love it. My main concern is keeping ich out and any other crazy diseases... Id love some insight on this topic. Thoughts??

Hmmm. Ich, and all manner of other things, are found naturally in nature (redundnant, I know). Ich, and those others, willl naturally get in your tank with NSW. Just my .02c.

Based on the life cycle of the ich parasite and the volume of the ocean, odds of introducing it to your tank via NSW is extremely low. They aren't a free swimming parasite in the water column.

I've introduced numerous organisms into my tanks from the Gulf of Mexico without problems.

Macro algae, hermit crabs, snails, inter-tidal clams, rock rubble (no live rock because it's illegal to collect. However I pick up interesting pieces of rock off the beach. ) I've also used Gulf water in my tanks but found it's more hassle than it's worth in my situation. I do have a fishing license so everything I have collected is legally harvested.

So far I've put a lot of stuff from the Gulf in my tanks with no problems.

I'm certainly no expert, but I know I'd be far more concerned with re-introducing the parasite via new fish or aquarium water.

You could run it through a UV sterilizer prior to introducing it...of course that would kill everything else, but you'd still have NSW. To answer your question, you are exactly right. There is a chance, although slim, of getting some unwanted parasite including but not limited to Crypto
