You might check with SoCal Tropical. They have it listed. Tom is usually responsive with e-mails too.

I tried salty critter and they will be out of stock until the end of this month.

I also tried socal tropical and they seem to only carry the old version v1.5. I'm looking for the v2.0 with the new pump.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I already tried ATB USA but haven't heard from them. I saw on Salty Critter's website that their skimmer are shipped directly from ATB USA, but I was told that they won't have them in stock until the end of the month.

My current skimmer was dropped and got a bad crack on it and it's not working anymore. I'm running bio-pellets so I'm in a dire need of a skimmer ASAP.

I actually just tried to get the 1.5 and apparently everybody seems to be out of stock on either version until the end of this month or next month.

Hmm, what to do...?

because iam a nice guy i called aquacave. they said they no long carry the atb 840 because of the undersize pump. they recommend the alpha 170 which has red devil pump, which is top of the line. its in stock.

Yeah I checked that one as well. I'm going to try for another couple of days and if i can't find one, I'll think about the ebay one

I wonder if ATB is doing something to their skimmers? Not a single online store has them in stock which is very weird. Now I might try to wait until the new ATI powercone and see which one I get instead

It is because they come in from austria. When they get them they are usually already spoken for. Great skimmer, Probably the best balanced skimmer you can buy.

As far as the alpha, its a red dragon pump.... witch is the askoll/laguna 1500 pump. Its a modified pond pump. Used on many skimmers. But that skimmer is not as well balanced as the ATB from my experience.

The ATI powercone still has some time before it comes in. The ATB is worth the wait. I have had the 3 atb skimmers and all are top notch.

I might end up waiting for the ATB instead.

In the meantime I'm going to be doing a 15g change every 5 days to keep up with not
having a skimmer running at the moment.

Would a ATB 8.5 deluxe be an overkill on a 125g with a medium ti high bioload?

Is it worth it spending the extra $200 on a Vertex Alpha 200 instead? Are their pumps really "virtually silent? I could get that one right away if it's worth it instead of the ATB 840

Maybe this is s dumb questions but, with the vertex skimmer, is the output underwater or does it have to be over the sump water level and it just splashes?

I used to have a ev-120 and the output gate valve had to be out of the water and would splash a lot making a lot of noise

Great, so it is pretty much completely silent! I might consider this one instead as i've heard so many good things about the red dragon pump

the vertex is not a better skimmer. built great and the 200 is the best balanced of the vertex series but it is a askol motor just like the elegance.

How about this one with the red dragon pump? Would it be better than the ATB 840?
