Phyto question (contamination)
Hey, I am starting to culture my own plankton. I have a 2 liter bottle that I am about to split. Should I use two new bottles or just pour some from the original 2 liter into a new bottle and add more salt water (1.20) to the original bottle. I am scared that I might contaminate the original 2 liter bottle if I keep using it. Also why do I have to keep light on the bottle for 16 hours? In nature the ocean never gets 16 hours of straight sunlight. Never understood why the water should be 1.19-1.20 either when ocean water is 1.26.

You just need to make sure everything gets cleaned and sterilized before you use it.
Also, you aren't trying to reproduce natural processes exactly. You're trying to reproduce natural processes in the most efficient manner possible, so you can grow as much as possible as fast as possible. |
