57g rimless Illuminata build
This build has been in the planning/equipment gathering stage for months now, and I finally have most of my ducks in a row. My 30 gallon is overflowing with coral, and is in desperate need of an upgrade. This will probably be my last upgrade for a while so my goal was get something clean, and modern looking, and to use nice reliable equipment that would last a long time. The tank willl be sps dominated but still a mixed reef. Please feel free to give me your input and suggestions, here are the plans for the tank:
Tank: Oceanic Illuminata 57 gallon rimless, dimensions 36x18x21, with glass-holes 700 gph overflow. 3/4" return. Lighting: ATI sunpower, 6x39, I will retrofit some moonlights. For bulbs I will be running -Blue Plus -Purple Plus -Blue Plus -Aquablue special -Blue plus -Blue plus Filtration: DIY 20 gallon long sump, SWC Xtreme 160 cone skimmer, BRS reactor w/carbon and GFO, Fuge with chaeto, Rock-mixture of Marco rock and live rock from my current systems, Special reef grade seaflor sand. Flow: 2x MP10 ESw, Eheim 1260 return pump. I will be drilling the tank this weekend and hopefully will get the tank up and going in a week or two. |

Did you make your stand or did you purchase it? The marco rock looks like pretty nice stuff.

After a couple of years out of the hobby I am about to purchase that same tank but I think I'll go with the stock overflow. Your plan is pretty similar to mine. Couple of questions.
Is that just an Aqueon Pine stand? I was thinking of going with the Tech series stand but its pricey. Also, how are you going to hang the lights? From the ceiling or from bars attached to the tank stand? I like the look of the lights hanging from a lamp tree but I'm not sure where to purchase. The Marco rock is way nice, how many Lbs in the picture? Looks like a great set-up. Keep us posted ! |

No thats not a pine stand. I ordered the stand online, and they screwed up and sent me a stand made out of birch instead of oak like I ordered. They are going to replace it and Im waiting for my oak stand to arrive. About the light, i was going to hang it from the ceiling, but after doing some measuring the studs arnt going to line up like I thought they were, and I dont trust toggle bolts into the sheetrock. I will build arms out of aluminum conduit and hang it on those, should be pretty easy and cheap. That is 25 lbs of marco rock, the rest of the rock Im going to use is live and will come from currently running 30g and 12g tanks. I havent had much time to work on the tank this weekend because of work. I will drill it this weekend and get the project moving..

Stand came today. The place I ordered it from sent me the wrong stand originally. The cool part was they let me keep the first one they screwed up on, so I ended up with 2 stands for the price of one. Anyways, couple pics...

What arms did you use for your light hanging? Did you build or buy?

I built them out of 3/4" conduit from HD. I used a pipe bender in store.

Ok sweet thanks! And is your locline 1/2" or 3/4"? Looks like 3/4". I have an eheim 1260 too for my 65 gallon build but i have a 1/2" locline for the return. I just purchased the pump cover for the 1260 that converts it into a 1262 so i'm wondering if the 1/2" locline will restrict it too much. Let me know how the flow is. Liking your build so far!
