Calcium Reactor/Regulator problem

I have a relatively new pH electronic regulator/solenoid that I am using on my reef tank. Initally I was having trouble with the bubble rate slowing to a stop, I would increase the flow and it kept slowing down. I want to Salty Critter and picked up a new fine control valve that I connected to the regulator in place of the bubble counter and bubble control valve. I connected it, and it seemed to work great. I had it running for about a week (with a pH probe in the Calcium Reactor and pH in tank connected to my Apex for control). I came home today and heard a gurgling sound coming from the tank, much to my dismay I found that the solenoid was turned off by the Apex but the Co2 bubbles were rip roaring into the reactor inspite of the solenoid being off and the tank pH was down to 7.5! Has anyone had that problem? What should I do? If it had gone longer I would have lost everything! How could Co2 still be coming out if the regulator was off?

Bad solenoid valve, did you have a good brass check valve to protect it? If not, when the solenoid shut off, water probably siphoned into it.
