ALWAYS QT Your Own Fish!
Well, I thought it would never happen to me since I always QT everything or order it from Divers Den (the only company I still trust). I currently have a Crypt (marine ich) outbreak in my FOWLR which I am attributing to a fish I got from a local RC member who claimed their tank was parasite free (no hard feelings, my bad for not QT). Just a reminder to everyone here to ALWAYS QT THEIR OWN FISH and not take anyone's word for it.
The fish are dealing with it really well, have made it through a couple "life cycles" and it seems like the Crypt Numbers are dying down and starting to lay dormant. I have been feeding the fish COPIOUS amounts of Rods Fish Only Blend, Selcon soaked Squid/Brine, and NLS Ther-A+ Pellets. I don't have a QT system set up at my new home (only been here for 2 months), but if I continue to see spots after 16 more days I'll break out the old 55g and set up a copper tank. |

Ordering the VC today. I like copper because its easier to administer and keep at therapeutic levels..unless you have an extremely accurate ATO and refractometer the hypocrites might not work.

This is why I only order from Live Aquaria / Divers Den. The extra bucks are easily worth the time, effort, and money spent on quarantine.

Hi SkullV,
I used Ich-Attack in my DT in fall 2009 when several of my fish were showing signs of Ich after I added a new fish. I also added Garlic Guard and Metro+ to frozen food and fed Spectrum TheraA pellets. I used this treatment for probably six to eight weeks then continued adding Garlic Guard to the frozen food for a couple months after that. I still feed TheraA a couple times a week. I didn't lose any fish and I haven't seen signs of Ich since. I know a lot of people say Ich-Attack doesn't work, but it worked for me.

I made the same mistake, I bought a big seabe which had 2 big clowns with it that the seller wouldn't separate. I (presumed) they were good since they were so big and happy in the seabe that i put them straight in my tank with anemone. A week later they had ick BAD 4 other of my clowns got it, Killed them , The 2 i put in quarantine 1 died hour later other the next morning, Then Mechanics goby died. I lost all my fish but my mean azz sailfin tang that recovered completely and my scooter blenny made it through fine. I should and did know better but trust is a bad word in reefing. Now EVERYTHING goes into quarantine for at least 30 days in my tank that i keep copper and lower salinity in.

Wow,tough luck,it stinks to learn the hard way.If you need an immediate QT,i have a hospital tank up and running that could house your fish if need be.

The sailfin survived it and blenny did, But i did put the salinity back were it should be a few days before i took them back out and its staying there, Had to remove everything from a small hex reef i had to make a quick quarantine tank, Now that tank is worthless as a reef tank now so i use it for fish only and quarantine. Now im going to have to set up my 300/150/180 for my second reef tank maybe. I have to many tanks lol
P.S. we both received this ick from same seller i found out! |
