What do do about jumpers?

I purchased a blue jaw trigger and a pink spotted goby for my tank.. 2 days later I found the goby on the floor, dried out.

1 day after that, I found the blue jaw on the floor (this was yesterday). I caught it in time though, placed it back in the tank and as of yet, it's still hiding under some rocks.

Yesterday I covered my tank with some egg crate I had lieing around.

My question is, if I keep the crate on there long enough, will the trigger learn that jumping isn't a good idea, allowing me to remove the crate and not worry about it going for another suicide mission?

BRS has a video on how to make a DIY screen top. That would fix the problem. For me I bought some screen and stapled it to the back of my canapy and it fix the problem for me.

^^ Agree, and the desjardini.
Check BRS vid, order there, or if handy make a screen top of your own w/ a vinyl window screen kit and 1/4" birdnetting.
Fairly easy to make, most HD's carry what you need.

It is. The sailfin's about 6" right now, been with me for years. Lots of character. It was one of the first fish I purchased, (same old story, I trusted an evil LFS employee). In any case, he'll be moved into our work tank (185 g). I haven't moved it yet cause the tank looks terrible, needs an overhaul.

Here's where the trigger's been hiding out :

Thanks for the help. We have a company that sells exterior coatings for houses, and we use a fiberglass mesh to anchor the primer to the wall. I thinkt hat's what I'll use and see how it turns out. Should be a fairly simple fix.

I hope the trigger makes it though.

I did the BRS 1/4" clear netting for a top on my 75 mixed reef...have a flasher wrasse, pinkspot goby, and other potential jumpers but haven't had any issues.

I'm not familiar w/ this material, the thought of fiberglass kinda doesn't sit right w/ me, not sure if it has been treated w/ anything chemical wise, but maybe you know well enough to be comfortable w/it.
The birdnetting has been used for some time, it's not expensive, I would be more inclined to use that myself.

^^ this is the stuff I have

Since my lighting is pretty close to the water level, I'll have the mesh go around the lighting rather than under it, so I'm not too concerned with the thichness of the mesh.

however, to be on the safe side, I'll probably go ahead and use the birdnetting.
