New Flooring and my fishtank

We are getting new flooring this spring. So I have to move the fishtank for a couple days. What is the best way to do this? I was thinking that I will take most if not all of the water out to put the LR / fish and corals in. Then what do I do with the substrate? If I slosh it moving around it will go bad right? I could use this time to put in new substrate. but then will I have to "recycle" the water before I add everything back?

Any advice?

I JUST did this a couple of weeks back. I moved from my 20g L nano set up to a 40g L tank. This is what I did, I filled up 8 home depot 5g buckets with fresh saltwater half full, then drained my tank water into each bucket to get about 70/30 mixture. I put all my coral and LR in the buckets. Then I drained off the rest of my water into the buckets. I was left with sand and about 1/2" of water. I scooped the sand out and put it into the new tank, then spread it around. funny thing, I had enough sand in that 20gL to cover the bottom of my 40gL tank....I may have had a DSB lol. after the sand went in I smoothed it all out, added some water and placed my LR into the new tank. Then I added the rest of my water. finally I added all my frags. Aquascaped my tank a little, turned on the pumps, sump flow, etc and called it a day!

Livestock deaths = 0
cycle = 0
stress level for me on a scale of 1-10 = 7
stress level for my fish and coral = 7

Now, your case is different cause you need to find a home for your critters for a few days, etc. I would invest in some rubbermaid tubs and heaters. make each tub a mini tank. make sure there is a heater in each tub, water movement in each tub and if they go over 4 days I would consider a WC of 5% just to keep the water fresh. I would dose seachem stablity in each tub and a little stress guard to make sure noone freaks out on you. I would suggest a cover if you have any fish that like to carpet surf.

plan, plan, plan and then recheck your plan. thats the key, make sure you know where everyone is going before you move them.
