Reef Koi's Led Unit
I recently purchased the reef Koi led unit 120w 20k system for my 60 gal cube I was wondering if anyone had feed back regarding this fixture or better options as I still have time to cancel since they didnt have them in stock when I placed the order.

1 watt LEDs tend to be less efficient than the 3 watt version, so you will pay more for electricity. I am not familiar with the 1 watt version of LEDs (I also did not see what kind listed), but it would not surprise me if you end up needing 2.

No, I built my own I would look for something that uses 3 watt LEDs. But then I think the price may double.

Well for what it's worth i have 2 200watt units G2 coming in soon for my 72" tank. From all the info i gather they are pretty good lights. Of course they're not the 3 watt units you see all over the place.

Are you willing to build it yourself? That might be another option to keep the price down.

The whole "3-watt LED's are more efficient than 1-watt LED's" is a bunch of BS. It really depends on so many factor including manufacturer and drivers etc. One of the biggest reasons why 3-watts are so popular is because most of the DIY'ers are using them. Just like how CREE is the almighty LED. LOL!

I suppose that is somewhat true. Lumens/watt is highly dependent on the current (hence the voltage going through the LED). I have not looked at the lumens/watt ratio for and LEDs under 3 watts. However I think you will agree LEDs are getting more efficient. So generally speaking since 3 w are newer so they tend they are more efficient.
The reason most DIYer are using them is that they are the most efficient at the power we are running them at. So even though they cost more over time that is saved in electricity. Some people are also moving away form CREE because they are looking for a specific color. But color is very much personal preference. |

the BIG difference between 1 watt and 3 watt LEDs is water penetration!!!!
1watts are NOT gonna penetrate that deep into the water....THAT is why people prefer the 3 watts and the 3 watts are more effeicent than a 1 watt as far as Power to par measurements the Maxspect units are a REALLY good entry level LED unit...the semi led's are proving to be comparable to the Cree setups althought you can build urself a DIY Cree LED fixture for the price of a Maxspect with semi's |

Sometimes having a fabricated unit is better than DIY for aesthetic portion of things but if you don't care go for whatever works best for you.

and those same unit's u can google and get for almost half the price, they all are coming from china, and just putting their name on them same as a ton of other companies are doing. found the 120w units with 2 switch's for $175 shipped, personally if $ wasnt a issue id go with the aqua illuminations or a pac sun
