salt deposits along top of bottom trim

I started filling my used 125 last night. I added 25 gallons of saltwater. When I woke up this morning there were salt deposits along the top of the bottom trim. I wiped it off before work and there was more when I got home. Does this mean I have a leak? I'm holding on to hope that its not. Thanks
Brian

i always thought this was from when i stuck my hand/arm in and the water would run down the glass- then it sops at the bottom trim piece, evaporates and the salt stays-- i could be crazy --- if you clean it and thy continue to come back then you could have an issue

Salt creep can come from old salt deposits not cleaned out from the previous owner-- salt looooves water and can creep out of hard-to-reach places in the form of crystals. It could be a leak or it could also be from long-time build up that the other owner didn't stay on-top-of-when-cleaning...or lack thereof.

I would fair to guess that it is a leak. Mark the water line and check it. But I would empty it and check the seals to be on the safe side.

Marking water line won't mean anything, evaporation will occur.
Best is to clean bottom trim really well, wipe completely dry, and seal w/ tape(I like the blue tape, doesn't gum up) so there is no way water is splashing or spilling making creep come up.
Pull tape after a day or two, if there is creep, you have a leak.

+1

I had a suction cup powerhead come loose one day and splash the crap out of the canopy, and all down the front of the tank. Cleaned it all up, then found water at the BACK of the tank. Freaked me out. Turns out, the water got between the bottom trim and the glass, and worked its way around to the back. Takes a while for it to evaporate.

he only put 25g in there, and he wiped the salt creep off in the morning and there was more at the end of the day.

I'm going with leak, it'll require a teardown, not just resealing the inside.
