Help plan my 11.4 gallon build

11.4 Gallon Build

This is what I already own:
 • AquaFuge External Hang-On Refugium (going to use this for housing equipment)
 • Reef Keeper 2
 • Vortech MP40W ES (If I can't trade for an MP10W es + cash, I am going to downgrade back to an MP20)
I have a $450 dollar budget for the rest of the build

What I need to buy:
 • Mr. Aqua 11.4 Gallon ($45 + $8 shipping)
 • Possibly a AquaticLife Internal Mini Protein Skimmer 115 ($69.99)
 • Heater (Fully Submersible Heater)
 • Lighting (par38 or MH?)

I would love any suggestions on what I should add or do without.

thanks!

I am trying to work out how to place the bulbs. I'm going off to college and I am going to be living in an apartment, so I cannot mess up the walls etc

I was thinking about getting 2 clamp on desk lamps and clamping them onto the back of the external fuge, but I cannot find any nice ones with a removable "hood"

I traded my mp40w es for an mp10w es +cash, so my water flow problem is solved. Now I just need to figure out lighting.

I decided to take a different route because the difference in price between the PAR 38's and the AI Sol Nano is around 100 dollars.

Here is my new equipment list:
 • Mr. Aqua 11.4 Gallon
 • ViaAqua Titanium Heater
 • Eshopps RS-75 Reef Sump
 • Aqua Illumination Sol Nano
 • Super Nano Overflow kit
 • Return Pump (not sure what kind)
 • Custom Stand
 • Reef Keeper 2 (own)
 • MP10W es (own)
The price of everything comes out to $528, but I am trying to keep things under 500 :/ Let me know what you think about everything.

The only probably problem I see is with your overall situation. Are you going to live in a place where you plan to be for at least a year or are you going to go home for the holiday and summer breaks? Moving a tank of this size/design every semester would be a royal PITA. If you can plan your sump design and stand to be quickly broken down and moved then life will be easier, but an AIO is a better idea for more frequent transport. If you're just going to do the typical college move every year plus a few short vacations then I think a full sumped set up will be fine. Just be sure to train roommates and friends on reef care so you can have some help when you leave.

Aside from those concerns, your equipment list looks solid and enviable

thanks for the input

I will be living with my best friend who is also in the hobby (because of me haha)

I will most likely be staying in the apartment for 2 years and if I ever leave (for vacations etc) it wouldn't be long
