Glass holes overflow kit....

I was wondering if anyone has used the overflow kits from glass holes.com.... Thinking I might go with the 700gal. overflow kit(for a 40br), just not sure if I would be better off drilling 2 holes and making my own overflow box instead of going with their single hole setup. I really want to do everything I can to eliminate any potential leak or overflow issues, while at the same time keeping noise to a minimum....

Any opinions on this???

Their system is a patented design made to keep noise down, I would go with theres if that is one of your main concerns.

I'm using their 1500 gal kit on my 125. I was a little skeptical when I saw how small the overflow box was but I have to tell you this thing is really quiet.

I youre going to drill the tank yourself, why not look into the bean or herbie style drains? Those things are ninja quiet!

Using the 700 GPH I have done a 46 bowfront, and a 40 breeder I have used a mag 7 return pump and love it. I would recommend mounting it in the center and doing two returns one on each side. I get great flow with no noise. I have also used a 300 GPH on a 33 cube as well and love it the same.

drill ur own hole and get a coast 2 coast, better surface skimming that way and u can have a back up drain in case the main clogs with a snail.
beananimal or herbie

I guess I'm trying to keep the amount of drilled holes to a minimum(nervous about the glass cracking) and the bean is three or four holes correct???

I do like the idea of having a backup drain though...

make sure the distance between holes is 2x the diameter of the whole so it wont crack, find a local glass shop.

i had mine drilled by a local glass shop for $3 a hole.

I have a 700 on a 75 that has worked very well going on a year now. I think you would be happy with it on a 40. I wouldn't worry about putting holes in the tank too much. The Bean overflow is one that I wanted to do, but it's just a little more work than I felt like doing. I might go that route next time, but you cant go wrong with the glass-holes in my opinion.

Used their kit and no issues - just follow the instructions - drill slow and use water to lube. Once you get the flow to the sweet spot the overflow box is almost silent

It's 3 holes. One runs at full siphon, one runs like a durso, the other is an emergency drain. The awesome thing about the bean is since it's a full siphon controlled with a ball/gate valve, you could run as little or as much much flow as you like. I've seen as little as 200gph and as much as 3000gph all with 1" piping.

I wrote glass holes directly and asked for advice. For my setup, a 27 gallon cube, they recommended the 300 GPH. They also helped me find a good return pump for my application. Should be here soon. I decided to use them after seeing a few setups that had their overflow and a lot without. When compared to the sound of the fan in the light the overflow, with the acrylic cover, was not audible at all. In fact when the glass canopy was on the tank and the fan off it was still not really audible. For $108.25, I pay tax in Cali, I got the 300 GPH with teeth, the acrylic cover, and the 1/2" return. The cost of a stupid CPR overflow I got the return and the overflow. Really excited to try this setup out on my own tank.

I ran the 1500 on my 90 gallon for 3 years with out a single problem. I also have a 27 gallon cube that Im thinking about getting the 300 GPH set up for. I really think that they have a great product and Im sure that you will be very happy with it. But if your worryed about having a snail pluging a drain get the next size larger with the 2 drains to it. So you have a back up. Plus the size of the box really wont take up much space in your tank. They are very thin to boot.

What size are your return holes?
