Green star polyp coverd in Brownish stuff
Hi,
My Green star polyp is covered in a brownish kind if stuff. I have pictures of before and after it was "attacked" I just got a koralia nano (425 gph) and pointed it twords the green star polyp. We also have a protien skimmer. I have a 29 gallon biocube. Our tests are perfect the salinity is 1.025. The nitrate is 5, that is the only thing that isnt perfect. Our biocube is 2 years old but crashed about a year ago. We got an alge blenny a week ago but doesnt seem to be doing anything with the green star polyp. We did a 20% water change then in a few days after that we did a 10% water change. Wile we were doing the water change we took the Green star polyp out and put it into a bucket of water from the same tank and turkey based it but none of the stuff came off. Here are some questions... 1. What is it? 2. How do I get rid of it? 3. Will the polyps die? 4. Is it to late? 5. Will the blenny eventually get to it? 6. What causes the brownish stuff on my green star polyp? 7. Should I try and turkey base the stuff off again 8. Can I turkey base it in the tank Thank you |

Not uncommon for star polyps to grow this type of algae on them- if thats what it is. Blow them off with a turkey baster, and try to increase flow over them. One tank I have grows the algae and I blow it off every three weeks when I clean the display. It grows no where else in the tank.

I did it but nothing came off is there a clean up crew I can get
I have 1 fire shrimp 2 hermit crabs 3 snails 1 algea blenny |

The stuff I was speaking of is more like a cyno- just blows away witht he baster. I really can`t tell from your fotos what the situation is. keep good flow and water quality- it likely will recover.

can you dip it in coral rx? that may help it recover some.

I get the same thing . I have used ReVive coral cleaner and shake it hard when dipping it comes right off . Within two days it comes out better than before .. Wish I did not have to do this !
