Question Coral Transport

I got a question, is it possible for me to send coral frags from Sri Lanka to UK?

It’s going to be 12 hour flying time, so have to pack at least 3 hours prior to shipping and after the land it will be another 3 hours before placing in the tank. So shipping time will be something between 18 – 20 hours.

So if this possible how should I do it? is there any way i can do this by myself without going through a exporter?

Cheers.

Corals are very regularly shipped, for 24 hours, sometimes more, and do just fine, if packaged correctly and healthy, to begin with.

I would check into the laws/regulations, regarding shipping, to and from those areas.

24 hour shipping is no problem. We do it all the time. Just packed in a foam box, lined inside with newspaper. then bubble wrap for extra support. Corals are just put in a double/triple bag with water. done and done. these are shipped all over Australia.

I strongly doubt it will make it through quarantine on the UK side of the trip.

IMO it would not even be worth the attempt and like others have mentioned you would have to check the rules and regs around importing exporting corals into the UK (I know here in Australia it is illegal to import corals from any other country into Australia)

i think it would be much easier to ship them if they are worth it . you can only have 4 1/2 oz of any liguid on an airplane and they dont fool around .

You'll likely need a CITES export permit from Sri Lanka. Corals are CITES II (I think). This may help:

I had two deliveries that were late, one got delivered after 36 hours, the other after 48 hours. All corals survived, but it depends how you package. I remember seeing good tutorials on Google. Like, how much water to add to bag, how much air, what else to add to bag apart from coral, etc.
