no more microbubbles from skimmer, suddenly... how?? =)

i understand that anything in the water can potentially change surface tension, water properties... etc

i am just curious what caused all my microbubbles (from skimmer) to go away in the last 24 hours? its an aquamaxx hob-1 running for 4 weeks. from day one to yesterday night, theres some microbubbles, not excessive, but its there constantly. but today all gone

i didn't do anything to the tank in the past few days. my last water change was last weekend.

any ideas anyone??

i hope the bubbles dont come back

hi

bubbles are normal in new tanks where there's nothing to skim.

Have you added anything to the tank recently ? any fish, crabs ?
Is your skimmer skimming anything now ?

If yes then there's the answer. Increased bioload in water will make skimmer to work properly.
Same thing happened in my tank.

New skimmers have oil coatings from manufacturing that need to wash away. Sometimes it can take up to 2 months!

A vinegar bath before startup speeds this up rapidly.

My guess would be that the skimmer is now broken in and you should be expecting better skimmate.

thanks guys

maybe the skimmer really just broke in, but i expected the break-in period to be gradual, not over night on some random day

welcome to the forum leon!!
