UV Sterilizers, do they work?

Just wondering on everyones opinion on how effective uv's are on helping to control ich and other pathogens? Is it something worth looking into, or is it more nonsense and a gimmick? Thanks guys.

For ich you are better off spending the money on a proper QT setup. UV's are good for killing algae and bacteria. For parasites, like ich, it is best suited for multiple tanks (like a wholesaler or LFS.) For a single tank application it is really no better than feeding well and keeping good water quality.

It helped me out with ich...but better prevention is offering a low stress environment and good nutrition. I use mine now only because it makes my water really clear.
