My 1st Tank... Help
Hi,
I'm new to the hobby and I'm still in the equipment gathering stage of things but i could use some help. So here's what I've got so far a 90 gallon reef ready tank (48x18x25) (LxWxH), and a T5 Teck Lite 4 bulb lighting with with (2) Actinic White+ and (2) Aquablue+ bulbs. I'm looking at an ASM G1X protein skimmer but not sure if its the right size for my tank? How big of a sump do i need? What size heater, return pump and powerheads are best for my tank size? Sam |

Yep, that protien skimmer is rated up to 150g, so that'll work. For the sump, go with the largest volume you can fit under your stand. Return pump should match the overflow's gph, and you'll need to allow for head loss. I'd suggest two separate heaters as a failsafe in case one goes down. Jager heaters are a reliable, long running brand. Two 150w should be enough to warm the tank. Powerheads, Tunze or Koralia, or if you have plenty of money to spare, Vortechs.

![]() To Reef Central I'm looking at an ASM G1X protein skimmer but not sure if its the right size for my tank? I have a ASM G2 and it works great.Has a recirc mode, but I think you'll be fine with a G1 How big of a sump do i need? Generally, big as you can fit.I have a 70 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank in my basement for a sump. And I have a 90 display. What size heater? It's generally 3 watts per gallon and the next size up. A 250 watt heater will work fine. return pump? That depends on where the sump is and how much water height to push up (head pressure). and powerheads are best for my tank size? That also depends on corals(type)

So if I have a skimmer rated for 150 gallons does that mean I can only have up to a 60 gallon sump?
