Question Temp flucuation?

My tank is 9 weeks old and I've had my heater set at about 78-79 degrees since I set up the tank. I have had a daily fluctuation in temp from 78-80 since the beginning as well. Is it harmful to the inhabitants to have a daily fluctuation of 2 degrees? I can't figure out what is causing this besides the light. It's not near a window or vent. Could I be leaving the light on too long? Is it my heater? Help!!!

The swing likely is due to the light, and I wouldn't worry about it, personally.

A 2 degree shift should not affect your livestock. Fish can tolerate different temperatures in the ocean in a short amount of time. I wouldn't worry about the very small temperature change.

Okay. The reason I'm asking is because my trochus snails seems to want to spend more time out of the water than in it and I don't get why. My water params are beautiful so I keep thinking I'm torturing them with heat or something. There is no algae where they are at so I don't get it!

lol...your fine man thats not much of a swing. A lot of people dont even use heater on there sps tanks, the water swings about 6 degrees every day and things are great. some people think it make the corals stronger.

+1 I have read alot on this subject and lots of people have swings of 6 degrees every day. Mine gets down to 77 and up to 82 each day and I have 0 issues.

Heck I can swing 5 degrees over 24hours. No issues it's a slow change over the time and it is consistant. Only 2 degrees.... Find something that is a real problem like nothing on HBO to watch tonight.
