I'd say that's not a bad price for a new cabinet, especially if it's stain grade.
I'm a carpenter, people ask me all the time to build a cabinet for less than what a store bought cabinet costs, and simply put, it's about half that price for material alone(for quality stain grade) and it's alot of labor, not alot of profit to be had. Shopping for a used cabinet is an option if trying to keep cost down.

FYI: I have had bad experiences with tanks cracking and DYI stands. I now only use made for aquarium furniture/stands.
