"Starting over" - question about sump flow

Nothing has really gone wrong, but we're moving into a new house and I thought it'd be easier to get a new tank and set everything up, then move fish, rather than tear down my tank and leave fish in rubbermaids to replumb everything and get it filled back up.
I decided to do a minor upgrade... from a 180 to a 220, and I'm building in-wall now that I've got my own house to play with, rather than a crappy rental.
Right now, I'm running a Reeflo dart on closed loop with an OM 4-way, and a Reeflo snapper through the return. I'm using 2 700 GPH overflow boxes from glass-holes.com.
I was wanting to use the dart on the 4-way for my return from the sump, and glass-holes is recommending that I use their 3000 GPH overflow to handle the pump flow. I was planning on supplementing that with an MP40W in the tank (so 4 return outlets on a wave maker + a Vortech).
Question: Is it unwise to run that much flow through the sump (I think by the time the pump goes through the 4-way and up 5 feet, it'll be pumping quite a bit less than the 3600 GPH max the pump is rated for) in order for the filtration (mostly the skimmer) to adequately function? And is the return flow + an MP40 going to be enough for a mixed reef (I figure I'll see about 5000-5500 GPH of flow).
I'm open to suggestions of other ways I might do this. I thought about keeping the snapper on the return and going to 2 dart/4-way setups, but I think this is excessive (but maybe its not), and also a bit of an energy hog setup (I'm not trying to hug a tree, but I do care a bit about the power bill), or going on a closed loop with a stronger pump than a dart.
I like the CL setup now, but figured the plumbing would be simpler if I went with the Vortech, and it eliminates a lot of the hole drilling (its easier to drill later than plug holes in glass).
Thanks for any opinions.

You want to have a lower flow through the sump to give your skimmer time to work if you have 3000-3600gph flowing through there your skimmer isn't going to work very efficiently.. You be better of going with a small return pump(plus large returns and that much flow will be noisy as hell.. use the reeflo on a Closed loop with the OM4 and you'll be much happier I promise you that.. I've done huge returns and wasn't happy.. only reason Im running a 1350gph return pump presently is because I'm feeding two returns into the DT, my frag tank and my fuge all off the return... I would recomend running 2 vortech mp40's though.. plus then with them wireless acting together you'll have some good current in there.. otherwise I don't think you'll have enough flow.. Im running a mp40w 2xevolution 1400s, 1xevolution 1050 and 2xseio 1500's in my 90g and I still want more flow.. on my 210 Im hoping(if I can swing it) to run 2 mp60's one on each side and my mp40 in the middle of the back wall of the tank.. or at least 3xmp40s

personaly i like less flow through the sump so your skimmer can do a better job of cleaning the water

Thats kinda what I was afraid of.
I could run the snapper on the return, the Dart on the 4 way and and a vortech... dont think the wife is going to appreciate the $900 tab for 2 Vortechs, but I dont think the closed loop is really enough right now either.
I guess the compromise would be the snapper return on the 4-way, and the vortech, see what happens, then add a 2nd later if its not enough.

Low flow if skimmer production is what your running the tank for. Before the skimmer wars started, sump flow was much faster. In my opinion the hair algae problems started about the time the flows went down. When a tank tests 0 for trate and phos and there is still algae-its because the nurtient is being used in the tank, to me-getting water out of the tank to be processed by cheato or skimmer is more imortant. Since I usually grossly oversize my skimmers- they don`t need to be super efficient. My opinion is that you do some testing to see what works best for you-likely fast or slow you will be able to have 0`s on the test kit- which is what matters more than how much the skimmer produces.

If you cant afford another vortech I know I can't right now.. buy a few koralia evolution 1400s you can buy them new on ebay for $45 shipped and sometimes cheaper from Big Al's when they have specials a few months back they were selling em for $25... Also you can pick up used mp40s for about $250-300 and sometimes cheaper now.. Or if you can find a used mp20 upgrade it to a mp40 for $100 like I did with my mp20 recently

eh, I can afford a 2nd vortech if I had to... its just whether or not I want to hear the "why do you need a 2nd pump? We need blinds and paint and who knows what else" thing that I'm gonna get for it.
I was stoked when I got the go-ahead to buy another tank and cut a hole in a brand new wall.

I hear ya our new house closes in a few weeks and we need to paint of course and replace a few doors among other things.. I actually have everything to setup my 210 but she wont let me till I can afford a led setup for it she doesnt want the extra heat/humidity in the house and especially the electric bill for me running the 3x250w radiums I already have for it=)
