Skimz SK 201 Kone

Well I had to break down and get one of these. IT will be here tomorrow.
Thanks for finding out some info on the pump for me. The 201 on Aquacaves website says it has the 2800 pump and the skimz website says the 5000. Aquacave is actually correct. It was a misprint. Thanks for taking the time out to find out what it was. The 202's jump up to the 5000 pump.

Thanks again.

What size will this go on? the confusing thing about these skimmers are we are not familiar with that style pump.

The pump is actually made in Italy by Eden, which manufactures Eheim pumps.

I've got the SM201 on the way.

Not sure who is right or wrong . I have a SK-201 . It came with the 5000 pump .

[If they changed this then I forsee complaints of not enough pump for that body .

This company makes the compact line of pumps for Eheim .

The impeller .

I have had first hand talks with the technical manager ADO . I had that pump question too. It should be a ES- 5000 not a 2800

And i'll let Mojo do his review.... Enough hijacking .

oh no you are fine. Mine should be here in another 30 minutes or so. That is when the brown truck gets here usually. I called aquacave and asked because their specs show the 2800 and skimzz show the 5000. So we will have to see.

here is the one I ordered
http://www.aquacave.com/skimz-sk-201...mmer-3331.html

Technical Data:

* Skimmer pump: 1 Skimz ES2800 needlewheel - MADE IN ITALY
* Power consumption: 13W
* Air intake: 780 l/h

Dimension:

* L 233mm (9.4") x W 233mm (9.4") x H 555mm (22.2")
* Cone base diameter (mm): 200mm (8")
* For Aquariums: 800 - 2,000 litres (214 - 533 gal.)

really curious now. IS that the same skimmer you have as well ?

Yes . I have a SK -201 If u go to the download page of the manu , not the vendor skimzmarine . The specs are different . I posted them above. I cannot have the largest one as that one uses two pumps .
Like I stated earlier there is no way that skimmer will run with a 2800 pump . It's too small for the body . I really hope someones fixes the specs as it would inhibit purchases and decision making .
I have had mine since early mid Feb .

See the size of it .

WEll I am feeling a little miffed at moment. mine has the 2800.... but the manual says it should have the 5000, the skimmer has a sticker on the body that shows it should have the 5000...... it has the 2800. With a 4 inch neck I would think the skimmer air draw should be about 1000 lph. this is what the 5000 is rated at. hmm I have some pics to show this as well.

well aftger looking at my own pics the 2800 is rated for 1020 lph of air. ill have to give it some time to break in. But if that is the case I have no worries that the pump will be ok. this pump has the support on the front too. Must be a little cheaper pump and they are able to get adequate air from it.

WOW ..Major surprise . I never thought I would see that pump on the 201 . The 5000 is rated @ 1200 max lph . I was also under the impression I had the final impeller version for the 201 for the US. I do remember some chat about a pinwheel and needlewheel . I was advised there was no difference between the two just verbage ..
I don't have a air meter but I am sure you do . I am also curious to see the impeller changes.( NW /PW) If it draws more than 780 lph to get to the 1000 due to the neck size . I am just as stumped as you are . My volute ? appears to be different too .
If it does push close 1000 lph that is one crazy pump @ 13 watts . My paperwork reads the same . Also my skimmer base has a serial number on a silver sticker and the body says the same as your body .
.

Aquacave, please lend me a hand on this. I bought this skimmer because it would work with my sump levels 7.5 inches. The skimmer is breaking in but man this pump is loader than the sedra 9000 based skimmer I just pulled out. I have a feeling wit the smaller pump that it will not pull as much water or air and will need to be ran in deeper water. I am not going to make another sump based on false information. Nothing against aquacave at all. I got my item super fast in great condition. but honestly I would like the es5000 pump for my skimmer. How would I go about getting it. who do i contact?

got the message. Had a couple emails out to get this resloved. Gonna pull the pump to make sure the wheel is seated properly. reinstall and see what I have. Just looked at the skimmer and it is breaking in nicely. Performance seems to be ok. Going to grab my air meter and go from there. Everything may be just fine. Let me look at a couple things then I ll give ya a ring. Thanks for the call BTW.

MOJO~

I did get an email back from Skimz and they said the proper pump should be the e2800. So with that being said I pulled out the ol air meter to see what I was getting 39 scfh with everything open. Thats about 1100 lph. Pleanty of air. That is most likely why the pump is a little noisey. thats a lot of air for that little pump. Ill dial it back after it breaks in to about 34 scfh and I think that will quiet down the pump.

Thanks

Here's odd video for you . This is a ES-2800 impeller change out . I did say I heard SKIMZ will make changes they see as needed on the fly . This impeller does use a front support . OOPS you did say that . So u can scratch the possible seating issue .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nhIQAI7Ygo.

Unless it is like this one . No front support .
. This is how I found out my impeller was not seated correctly etc . U hear that click popping noise . '

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lfn9WYk7yHY&NR=1

Hopefully all this is old news .

after looking at the specs the difference you guys are seeing is the difference of the "KONE" which comes with the ES2800 and the "MONZTER" which comes with the ES5000....

my guess is the difference is for physical space issues....

The "Kone" used to come with the 5000, they recently changed this.
