Sounds like you need to make the hole in the duroso top a little bit bigger. Try running it with the cap on and with the cap off and you'll see what I mean. He should have included 2 endcaps on it so you can do a bit of testing, but I also went to HD and bought some more to test with.

Mine sticks out maybe 1/4 inch above the overflow, maybe a little less.

i raised the durso pipe and the surging has slowed it still does it but not as frequent, the top of the tee you mean drill and make the hole bigger the like 1/4 size on top of the durso pipe

Yeah, that piece where the "top" is, water goes down one way but there is a little bump at the top with an end-cap on it. You need a small hole in there to make it flow even. It is mentioned at the top of the page here - http://www.dursostandpipes.com/make-...wn-diy?start=2

in the 3rd and 4th pictures the piece has a hole in it it runs quiet for a few minutes then it becomes kinda like air bound

Why do I do this?

I used to run my durso much lower than that. I kept the vent hole about 3 inches below the teeth in the overflow. That helped a lot with the surging.

That dip then bend upwards in the drain hose is probably the cause of it. Water is bulding up in there and then causing a siphon.
You need the drain line to slope always downward, even if it is just slightly.

Try holding the drain hose in a full downward slope with no areas going upward, and see if it stops.

I had the same problem with the exact same equipment. I used a gate valve and set it at 50 percent on the pump. It's completely quiet now. I now changed it to a mag 3 with no problems.

Don't drill your MegaFlo,please.
It already has a hole on the side and top(factory).

Looks way too high.
The nipple on top is almost level with the top of the overflow wall in my 90 gallon.
And it's a silent as a church mouse.

Ah ha,that drain line(blue flex hose) bent like that is acting like a trap.
Straighten that, even if you have to cut it and your problem will be gone.
BTW,do you know that bioballs eventually become a nitrate factory?

I didn't say shorten, I said that dip needs to be out of there. The reason it is gurgling/ flushing is because it is starting a siphon and drawin the water out of the mega flow, when it runs ou of water it makes it gurgle. That drain line needs to always be slanting downwards, the water backing up is hat starts the siphon. The hole in the top will also help prevent it.

Were it steady noise you were dealing with it would be a different cause.

This is your problem, cut the hose for a straight shot. Also i do agree though that durso looks a wee bit high.My air hole was level with the trim of the tank.

Not sure if you can cut that hose and still attach it securely.
But,definitely get the bend out of there.

I had the same problem, with the exact same sump. Three things can cause this "surging".

1. Too much return flow. I don't think this is your problem, as the Mag 5 puts out 350 gph at a 3' head and your drains are rated at 600 gph max return.
2. Return pipe (the one with the nipple in pic 3 & 4) is too high. Yours is too high. Need too get that lower, with the top of the tee at about the height of the bottom of the teeth of the overflow.
3. Up and down track of the flexible drain hose. This creates a cycle of air trapping, and the surging. You have to position that hose such that is is a gentle continuosly downward course.

Here are some pics from my previous set-up:

NO GOOD:

BETTER (put clips, though ):

One more thing. I don't like those stainless clamps. The screws will rust. I use plastic cable ties, like these:

just had the same problem... i drilled out the hole in my pipe to 1/4". Actually i ended up cutting it off flush and then drilling to 1/4" and it's level with the frame of my tank. Dramatic difference in noise. My tank to hard plumbed to a basement sump but i had the same toilet noise.

my 90 has the mega flow, the drain is well below the tank edge, underneath my drain hose is looped, quiet as can be and I'm running a brand new mag 9.5 and could probably get away with a 12. and stingythingy45 is right, get those bio balls out of there
