the main tank usually has 20x tank turnover minimum. Seems quite a few people have more.

I would recommend no more than 5 x's throughput through the sump. The rest of the circulation is usually met through powerheads. If you have 20 x's turnover with your main pump, just think how fast the water goes through the sump. Would hardly be enough time for the freshly skimmed water to have any contact time at all with the skimmer, refugium, etc. would it?

I agree, the 10-20x is with powerheads on a SPS coral tank.
A return pump from a sump would be only like 600-800 GPH tops after head pressure is subtracted.

I was reading as for the DT. Maybe he means a return pump?

20x is way too much. the skimmer, and the refigue won't have time to take all of the bad stuff out. my tank is 90g and it's at 5x the flow. for 200g, it's going to be 1000gph.
i want a 200g tank, but too much for my blood. |

That's what I was thinking.
But only the OP knows at this point.

Thanks all but I should have said that the sump is 52 gal. I was thinking on using 1000 gph pump. I am putting the returns on both sides of the tank. Just wasn't sure if it was enough
