new tank..lighting...
hello all.. Im setting up a new tank and going alittle bit bigger this time..
48x18x24/122x46x60 (310litres-75/80 gallons i think) marine reef tank... And im little bit worried on which light to get...Should i get or which one would be better??? the T5 fluorescent tubes 4x54w HO or 250W METAL HALIDE FITTING 4ft + Internal Cooling Fans which has 2 x 250W UV Block M/H Globe 2 x NEW T5 High Output 54W Globes 2 x Blue LED Moonlight Globes This Fitting Has The Newest Electronic Technology T5 54W ballasts . there is a 150w uv block M/H globe, if the 250w is over kill which is better for me???? the price is 190 for the T5 and 333.00 (150w), 399.00(250w) price doesnt bother me that much, but i dont want to pay for over kill when something else will just with flying colors, if you know what i mean.. cheers all... |

For a 24" deep tank I would go with the 250W MH if you plan on keeping clams, anemones or SPS corals. If the tank is fish only or soft corals and fish, the 150W MH will be fine. Personally I am converting to LED and would recommend the same to you. LED has a higher initial cost, but long term savings on bulbs, electricity and not needing a chiller make LED much less expensive in the long run.
