Green Paly Color Loss
I posted this thread in the Zoa/Paly forum, but got no reponses so I thought I would give it a try here.
I was given some green palys in February and they have been doing great until just this past week. They were fluro green with full opening--so fluro that I think they are Nuclear Green Palys. We went on vacation last week, and while I was gone my sis-in-law watched the tank. Long story short, the overflow box lost siphon and my ATO put about 5 1/2 gallons of RO/DI water into the tank. I tested all of my water parameters and every thing is very good--Ca+460, Alk 2.9, SG 1.026, pH 8.1. My temp is a little high at 81, but I normally keep my tank at 80. I do realize that my Alk is slightly low as well. NO3 and PO4 are both 0/undetectable. The palys still open all the way and when I've fed them they "snapped" closed, but their color has gone to a very pale green and they look puny. Any suggestions why they did. I assume the drop in SG did it, but since it's back to normal, shouldn't they be happy again? Thanks for the advice.

yeh, my nuc greens are doing that well now either. could be something with water... or too much light. my nuc greens dont like high light. they sit on the outter edge of my tank.

Thanks for the replies. I've am running 4 T5's on individual reflectors. My palys sit on a ledge in the middle of the water colum on the outside edge. They are slightly shadowed by my overflow box, but like I said until the ATO dumped the water, they were very bright green, even up to the day we left.

What kind of lighting were they under when you got them? If it isn't the same as you have they may never look the same, the shock probably just sped up the color shift process. I could be wrong though it has happened maybe once or twice in my life

They were under metal halides, but they have been in my tank for almost two months and fine until the event I described in my OP.

Know this is not much help, but mine lost all of the color and turned tan only to brighten right back up to green? Never figured out what happened!

Actually a lot of help. That tells me that it may just be something they do. May be like mushrooms when they shed--could just be part of having palys.
