led height and other ?

So I ordered my leds.

My new tank is 36 x 18 x 24

I ordered 36 leds 24rb's and 12cw's

First question does anyone know about what heigth it should be above the tank

Also will a 4.5" x 23" heat sink be ok on a 36" tank?

Here's the led's I ordered
http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-...al-Blue/Detail

Also is it possible to paint the heat sinks with high heat paint as long as it's not on the base I mount them on?

Thanks in advance!

leds dont put out any heat or very very little heat so the closer to the tank the better. It depends on what watt the leds are? I have 144 3watt leds on a 5'x2'x2' tank 160gal or so and it is a little dim still. I will be adding about 30 more to get the brightness i want, they are 6" above the tank top. I grow hard corals softies and all around variety. I would recommend looking at this sight satistronics.com Chinese company shipping is a little long but worth the price difference. I just built an led setup in my brothers nano and we used 6 10watt leds and all I have to say is wow!!! Funny thing is that those 10watt leds were just a few dollars more than the cree's your looking at. they have 600 lumen as well.

as far as a heat sink i just used c channel from homedepot and that works so far so good. Have my leds running for 1 1/2years so far. No fans just the c channel. You will want a thermal glue. amazon has it a whole tube for 5bucks. The computer thermal paste will not hold the led to the c channel.
