Tang not eating nori

I have only had my yellow tang for 1 1/2 weeks now and is eating everything but the green nori that I hang in the tank with a clown fish clip.
Should I just put a new one in everyday until it starts to eat it?
It's the nori from a grocery store.
Or should I try another kind like?

I know it's important to have in their diet so just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

Thankyou

try getting RODS food brand it has 3 different kinds in the pack... you could also try romaine lettuce.

Rubberband the nori to a piece of rock rubble, and place it among the rockwork. That's how tangs would normally feed in the wild. Once he gets used to seeing it in sheet form, you can start using the clip. That's how I got my naso eating nori after it decimated all my dictyota and ran out of food. Hope this helps.

did you make sure it wasn't a flavored nori? check to be sure it's plain nori. If it is, you could try putting it in a garlic soak. sometimes the garlic makes it more appealing to the fish.

I read somewhere that the nori purchased from grocery stores may not be a good idea as they usually contain preservatives and other ingredients that you may not want to feed your fish or place in your tank (I think I read this in a magazine). That being said, maybe that is the problem? Anyway, I'm not advertising for the nori specifically made for Marine animals but you might want to try that since they make there's safe for our fish. Good luck!

I think alot of people use the nori from the grocery.
But I'm going to pick up some of that Julian springs I think it's called and try it tonight.
I'll also try the rock trick.

Thanks for the tips!!!!

I think Sprung's green nori is the same as the store bought nori. At least they look the same. Now the red, that is a dried sea weed that hasn't been processed.
My Petsmart sells Nori. It has Green, red and brown. But they are all processed like the green nori in the stores. I use red and green to offer some variety.

Tang will come around when it's ready.
My sailfin would'nt come near my algae clip for weeks after i got him,
even though all the rast of my fish were nibbling on it.
could have been the bright yellow algae clip that had him spooked.
Now he runs the rest of the fish away from his salad bar.
I've been using the nori from the grocery store for years.
Tangs do love the're salad.

The Hikari brand from the LFS has garlic infused in it.
My YT tears it up.

Nori are just dried seaweeds. AFAIK, they do not have preservative nor do they need it because they are... dried. They come with a pouch of desiccant to keep moisture out. I chuckled when someone in the past said, "make sure you use unsalted." Seriously, your tang will eventually learn to eat the nori. Tying in a piece if rubble is a good idea. Remove uneaten nori daily. In my tank, I have a powder brown and a scopas tang but even my chromis, damsels, swallowtail butterfly, yellow headed sleeper goby, LMB, cardinals, YWG and a pair of true percula clowns eat nori.

In my tank my tang would ONLY eat nori if it was free floating and it could chase it around the tank. It would grab it shake its head like a dog with a bone and tear pieces off..did it this way for 6 years..give it a shot..
