LFS with Bubble Algae!!!

I am currently in the process of setting up a reef tank and all the LFS in my area is infected with Bubble Algae!

Would you buy corals from a Local Fish Store that is infected with Bubble Algae in their coral tanks?

Depends on the level of infestation. Mild cases sure its not terribly difficult to remove it, if its a smaller coral ask them if they can put it in their emerald crab tank for a day and you can pick it up the next day some will to do that for you.

Like Grassroots mentioned I wouldn't have a problem unless it was a really bad infestation. Bubbles are pretty easy to pull of frag plugs and you can rinse it real well in some SW and you will probably dip it anyway before adding it to your system. If your tank is healthy, the BA should not return.

like everyone said, it depends on the coral and the infestation, but removing and dipping should really help. maybe you could use this as leverage when negotiating the price of the coral

we had a LFS here that is closed now, but had a MAJOR flatworm problem. I'm not sure if they were AEFW or not, but it made me leary of buying anything.

Bubble algae, cyano, and various other algaes grow quite well in the ocean.....where many of the corals we see in the LFS come from.

Food for thought

Nearly all LFS have bubble algae and flatworms, it's almost impossible for them to prevent it and isn't usually much of an indicator as far as a good or bad LFS. Just qt any SPS or Zoanthids and clean algae from anything you get and you'll be good.

Thanks everyone for your input. I will be diligent with the way I introduce corals to the new system.

I have become a big fan of divers den. Prices are not outrageous, the coral and fish are top notch, and shipping is free over 225 with a 15day stay alive guarantee.

IME its pretty hard to compete against that unless you have a really strong local network of fish stores and collectors.
