Bulkhead question

I have a bulkhead which is too long for my application. Has anyone cut a bulkhead before with a handsaw and how do you get it to where there is an open thread to start screwing on the nut?

Do the same as you would a bolt. Screw the nut all the way on, cut, then screw the nut off to clean up the threads. I've done it once and it worked well..

Wow, is it really that simple. So the trick is to screw the nut on first, right? Is there a certain way to cut it or do I go straight between the threads?

Yes, it's pretty easy. Put the nut on first. You can start cutting between the threads to give you a nice starting cutting guide, but keep the saw nice and square. You'll eventually cut across threads the further you cut.. Clean any burrs of plastic left behind with a pocket knife. make sure and leave enough threads to have a secure connection to what you are hooking it to.. I use a sharp hacksaw..
