Shrimp

my 3 sexy shrimp just died

Should I get 5 more sexier or 5 more peppermint shrimp
Considering the following aspects

1 which one is more hardy
2 which one reproduces better
3 which one is more attractive
4 which one is a better CUC

This is for a 5 gallon

if they all died around the same time I would make sure everything in you tank is good before buying more

it sounds like water parameters issue or acclimation issue

Oh yea they were put in there before cycling and now cycling is done.
I thought it was done when I got the, but I realized I had an ammonia spike and then another nitrite spike. So tank is good now

So which shrimp?

How old is your tank? How much rock, what kind of filtration, lighting, etc.?

If it were me I would wait another 2 weeks. Check water parm. every 3 days or so to be sure the tank has stablized. Then only then start to add livestock. I wouldnt be in a hurry to jump again, being I just tripped at the expense of the life we go to great cost and time to care for.

I dont think I would have 5 shrimp in a 5gal. If you want a shrimp tank, you may want to consider a harlequin pair. Just be prepared to buy lots of CC stars.

I just have one peppermint in my 12 gal and he's doing great. I would agree that you need to wait a bit though. Don't want to kill more critters.

In that small a tank, I'd go with sexies. You could not humanely keep more than one peppermint in there, it gets too large and is more likely to kill other shrimp from space issues.

Seeing as I have no idea what kind of tank you're running, have you considered Opae Ula? They're a very hardy breed of dwarf shrimp that will survive in anything from full fresh to brine, have a lifespan of 20+ years, and you can put forty in a five gallon without crowding. http://www.petshrimp.com/hawaiianredshrimp.php

The downside is that they'd probably only be suitable for a species tank.

I wouldn't do peppermints as they get pretty big and in a confined space like that, they may kill each other. or if you have any coral, they will probably eat it. I'd stick with sexy shrimp, but as for 5, I wouldn't put that many in there.
