I tried one out about 7 yrs. ago and it was a real hassle. It was hard to keep it set at a constant level. From my personal experience it was a piece of junk. I fought with it for a yr. or so and finally threw it away. I'm using 2 sro skimmers and am pleased with the results.

I had one for maybe 4 months they are a POS skimmer. I would save some money and go get a good skimmer. The SS's just suck.

Never had a coral life skimmer. I use a Precision Marine Bullet 1 skimmer and it is a pleasure to use. It keeps a constant level, easy to clean, quiet and efficient.

coralife skimmers are what experts reffers to as beginner skimmers. they are just good enough but yes the suggestion u got to upgrade was a good one.

The best bang for your buck (IMO) is going to be an ASM, if you are willing to buy used. There are certainly skimmers that perform better, but the price difference isn't justifiable to me, unless you are keeping very demanding corals.
