LED Thread- If you had deep pockets, which would you get and why!
I'm a fan of the exotic panorama's, but really haven't compared to others. I've have read and seen great things come from these lights.
If you were about to buy some new LED's, which would you go with!? Why? |

I would buy a DIY with a crazy amount of LEDs from Reefledlights. With a little finish work you could make it look even nicer then the pre-made stuff.

Sweet, yeah...DIY w/ LED's seems tough.
Just looked at AI, and really like the SOL!! Kinda small (11" long) I wonder how many I'll need. |

depends on how high you mount them. the higher you go the less you need. on a 6' 125g you could do 3 or 4 mounted sideways (parallel) to front. |

Gosh those those small little units are expensive.
They're apparently better than the exotic panorama's, but the controller they give you is very limited. As some people have put it, "it sucks." You have to buy the other controller for it to do what it is really designed to do. You can adjust your lights to run a certain precentage all day long just like real time days. you can make your whites 30% at 9am 40% at 10 and 100% at 12-3pm and then phaze down again. same with the blue... you can make it cloudy and all kinds of stuff with that controller that you can get seperately. not the one that it comes with. so much money if you have a bigger tank, but if you had a nano or cube it would be great. or if your planning to drop 4+ g's on lighting. |

I think the controller is excellent. 4gs? for what? 3 are fine over a 6' tank.

its the profilux controller that makes these lights perform well, not the one that it comes with. the one that it comes with is really sensitive and hard to adjust and is limited on things it can make the lights do.
this is all per other people that have the lights...not my own observations. i just learned a little about them last night. |

They are expensive, but so far I really like mine.
I do not have an issue with their controller, I like the flexibility and being able to set the intensity and the ramp time, and I do not need much more.

the profilux takes it farther, but the settings on the regular controller are fine.

Ai sol....
They are a little pricey, but they are controllable with either their controller or Neptune APEX.

I just spent a month scouring the internet for the best light for my 30 gal.and finally decided on the Orphek PR 156. It arrives next week and I can't wait.

I heard they have a new apex jr coming out in a month that will be $150. That's cheap, but may be a rumor, haven't looked on my own yet. They advertised it at the. Expo in so cal.
Thanks scram42, brwestern, and mnchartier. I'll check em out. |
