Moonlight LEDs

I bought a surge protector power strip that has 8 power outlets on it. Four of them are always on for pumps and a heater. The other four are on a programmable timer. But when the timer is set for the lights to come on two of the outlets come on the other two shut off and vice versa. My moonlights are on the timer so when the lights go out the moonlights come on. So it gives me 12 hours of daytime light and 12 hours of moonlight. Is it ok to have the moonlights running for 12 hours or should I put them on a separate timer and if so how long should the moonlights be on for? And should I vary the times to try and mimic a lunar cycle?

Coralife or similar power strip? Be careful with those, they have a pretty dismal failure rate.
12 hour moonlights aren't a problem as for the most part they are just for looks and so we can kinda look into the tank at night. Some of the higher end light controllers have lunar cycle simulators but I don't think there is any proof that they really have any major effect on fish/corals.

It's called Power Center made by Coralife. Thanks for the info. I was worried that a 12 hour lunar cycle might be a problem.

I think you're fine with teh 12 hour moon lights, I would just keep an eye on the actual power strip make sure it's turning on and off when you want. I had several and they would get stuck on or off...

So far it's been working properly but I'll keep an eye on it just to be safe. Thanks for the heads up.
